Deadlines and priority

Two different things, often confused: the deadline says when it has to be ready. Priority says what jumps ahead of what when both are due today.

The deadline

One per job — one date, the one you promised the customer. You set it either on the quote, or later by opening the card on the job board.

One field, not three. There's no separate artwork, printing and delivery deadline — because in practice nobody maintains them, and three half-filled dates are worse than one right one.

Where you see it:

  • On the job's card, on the board
  • In the list, as a column — that's where you sort and scan
  • In the Calendar, automatically

When it passes

An overdue job turns entirely red on the board and its date goes bold red in the list. There's no way to skim past it, and that's the point.

Priority

Three levels, on the job card:

  • Normal — no marking
  • Urgent — orange stripe and an exclamation mark
  • Rush — red stripe and a lightning bolt

It's independent of the date. The job due in three days can be a rush (the customer has a trade fair), and tomorrow's may not be.

In the Calendar

Every quote with a deadline shows up in the Calendar by itself, without you creating anything. It's a reflection of the quote, not a separate event: you don't edit the date there — the Calendar tells you "this deadline comes from the quote" and sends you to it. That way two dates for the same thing can never drift apart.

⚠️ There are no automatic reminders

Say it plainly to yourself: PressCal does not notify you that a deadline is near or missed — not by email, not in the bell. The only notifications the app creates are about customer quote approvals.

The board, the Calendar and the red are the reminder. They work because you look at them — not because they chase you.

In practice that means one habit: open the board in the morning, list view, sorted by deadline. Thirty seconds, and you know your day.

💡 Want a hard reminder for something critical (last day to submit a tender)? Put it in the Calendar as a normal event — there you create it yourself and it lives independently of the job.
